Turkey Taters and Shrooms
Had a turket in the freezer from back at thanksgiving. Rubbed with evoo and Wolfe Rub Bold, smoked on the WSM at 300*.
Potato packs with quartered red potatoes, some fat free Itailian dressing, a little onion and garlic, sea salt and cracked pepper.
Seen on another forum about smoking mushrooms so had to try. Picked up a small pack of Baby Bellas, seasoned with evoo and Hoochie Mama.
All I had left for smoke was the lump, and I put them on for about an hr.
They were not overly smokey, held up well and had a nice flavor to them.
Next time I would use some Italian dressing with the rub and let them marinate for an hr or so as I didn't have the time yesterday.
My wife doesn't like the criminis as well, so will have to try some white ones next time, but not sure they will hold up as well.
A definate try again.

Very nice, Mike! It was nice to see someone cook a bird this weekend!
I love shrooms most any way you cook them. Instead of trying Italian dressing, why not make your own using balsamic vinegar? Might add a bit more sweetness than italian, but then again, I'm not a huge italian dressing fan.

Good eatin' there, Mike! Way to show turkey isn't just for Thanksgiving!
BTW, for marinating 'shrooms, try a store-bought greek vinegrette for a different flavor. A balsamic vinegrette is awesome, too.

No opinion on the fungus as I think eating those things would constitute torture as defined by Home Land Security.
What kind of lump were you using?
I had to get my glasses out to read that Dats
I use Royal Oak lump. I have actually never tried any other.
Good ideas on the marinade for the shrooms...

I hear good things about that brand, just can't find it here. Choices are limited to Lazaro (sp?), BGE, occasionally Cowboy and some crap that CostCo sells.

Only place I've seen it is Wally World. RO briques are only at the Dollar Store, AFAICT, and it's a *very* seasonal item for them.
