Cooking with Dr. Pepper or Coke
Saw an episode of BBQ Pitmasters recently, on which, a respected contestant put Coke in foil with his brisket. Do people really smoke with soda? What's the effect on taste? What about for ribs?

Re: Cooking with Dr. Pepper or Coke
I think the idea is from a tenderization point of view rather than any sort of flavor enhancement. Perhaps the sugar adds a touch of sweetness.

We don't add it when smoking but use it as marinade. Seems to work well on chicken.

I know Coke or Dr. Pepper is great for ham. Haven't tried it on beef .....

Heard of it using Dr Pepper (which I’ve boycotted ever since their lawyers screwed Dublin, Tx IMHO). Sweet+acidic for tenderizing. I prefer using Shiner Bock, and use it on pig.
Heard an urban legend when I was a kid about putting a piece of meat in a Coke for 30 days and it would dissolve due to the acidity, but don’t know if true.

Bobby: "No."
Hank: "Well, there's really no wrong way to do it."

Re: Cooking with Dr. Pepper or Coke
Don't know about that but coke works great to clean battery terminals and if battery acid is splashed on clothes, a quick soak with coke will prevent holes being burned in the cloth (an old mechanics trick).
