Wv have you worked with greenstone aka pounamu aka jade, it's found on the west coast of the South Island, I have connections in the mining industry there ( gold) have done for 25 years. I have 2 or 3 large chunks of greenstone in my garden, not quite carving quality, but it looks nice. Giggle hokitika greenstone.

Russ

I've used Jade, I go to a gemologist/supplier up here. He takes 3 or 4 trips out of the country each year, very knowledgeable guy.
We don't carve anything, we do small intricate woodwork and we crush our stones and pick our pieces by hand that we use in our inlays. We have some interesting stones for sure.

Looks a lot like our mesquite but without the darker heartwood. Exceptionally hard stuff, probably second over here only to bois d'arc (in Texan pronounced Bo Dark), a kinda greasy yeller wood known to ruin chain saws and cause termites to run and hide. So durable, they used to use it for stiff leg piers under houses. You wouldn't wanna cook over it though. Grows a green, brainy looking fruit about the size of a grapefruit whose only productive use is as a deadly projectile you'd fling at the noggin of the neighborhood bully. We call em horse apples though I never saw any self respecting horse eat one.
BE WELL, BUT NOT DONE

Bobby: "No."
Hank: "Well, there's really no wrong way to do it."

Giggled it, beautiful wood lines, looks bit like our rimu which is used in furniture a lot. It's very expensive and a beautiful wood. My kitchen roof is lined with rimu tongue n groove from one of my customers from the coast. Pic to follow.

Ain't no problem at all!! I enjoy learning about all this stuff! I love to see people that can work with different woods and produce something beautiful. I don't come close to having any skill with wood.

WV, where'd your ring go?

We just this afternoon tried that marinade for white meat. It was good, but I may be a thigh convert from now on.
