Attempted salmon.

Postby JustinCouch » Sun Mar 25, 2018 7:34 pm

We tried doing a cedar plank salmon tonight and I was nor to pleased. 1st of all I had to use those frozen vac sealed Walmart fillets. 2nd I let the plank get a little to charred. I think next time I will just put the fillets directly on the grates. I know it will never be as good as fresh salmon but it was a good try.

Bummer but you'll never know if you don't try will ya? Salmon is something I have got to try on the Grill but I'm a tad doubtful of my success also. :dont:

I was never a plank fan.
I've always had the best luck with a brown sugar, soy sauce and lemon juice system.

We have a plank sitting around somewhere...was never brave enough to use it. Maybe this year?

Usually we put the salmon on greased foil. Mustard, q-shake, and some form of sugar.

Did you soak the plank first? What temp did you cook the salmon to?

I almost always grill salmon on a cedar plank. I'll usually soak the plank for 10-20 min and grill over direct coals till the fish reaches 125. Cooking to that temp ensures that the fish is nice and moist, and the plank doesn't burn too much and cause the fish to have an acrid smoke flavor.

I should give it a try, especially with the info you've provided suckaass.
Looking forward to more camping trip with my family. I need a new tonneau cover to secure my equipment and pit.
