The Great Chicken Presentation Debate

Grill marked or Textured chicken?

I prefer textured chicken. I believe it adds a depth to looking at chicken.

What is your preference or opinion? Post a pic of preference if you have one and short blurb why.

They both look great but if I had my choice from your pics it would be textured.

I fully understand that Competition is about the Presentation and Appearance HOWEVER, when I smoke/grill a BIrd it's what's inside that I am most concerned with. So unless I get a couple of bites of each of those "hint hint" it would be impossible for me to decide. :salut:

I agree with OUP it definitely is on taste, however with that said at a competition? Judges eat with their eyes first so in my opinion its gotta look good. Now with that said everyone's taste even with eyes is different.

This is usually how I present my yard-bird.

The few comps I have judged it seemed most were trying to accomplish the example provided above by TwoGuys. Nice skin color and a thin glaze or sheen from a sauce. Looks nice!

If I was just eating and not judging, I really like that picture with the grill marks.

Not that I'm partial, but anything off of that cooker/smoker has my highest regards of tasting really good.

Yes i agree to taste importance but wanted to just zero in on presentation. Yes i see many birds with some type of glaze.
