Getting My Wok On

Postby Smoking Piney » Mon Nov 12, 2018 4:04 pm

A BGE chicken and shrimp stir fry to surprise my wife when she gets home - green and yellow bell pepper, celery, snow peas, bean sprouts, baby corn, water chesnuts, bamboo shoots, fresh minced ginger and garlic. :D

I love stir fries but it's an hour or so on prep and 10 minutes of cooking. I sauced this with a mixture of oyster sauce and rice wine vinegar. I had no time to take pics of it sauced - the cook was moving fast and furious and I had to get it off the wok. :D

It's fun for me to finally replicate the heat of a real wok kitchen vs my puny stove top. With a wide open BGE....it's HOT and the real deal.

The propane burner for a turkey fry pot works well too. I have a plow disc (haven’t used since I bought my Blackstone) and the burner worked well for it.

VERY nice. Didn't know you could get a wok that would fit on an Egg that nicely. Looked like it cooked at a perfect heat level and turned out some awesome food. :salut:  :chef:

Oddly enough, it's hard to find a good wok in California. Last place you'd suspect that right? LOL. We even went to Chinatown in SF to look for one. Strangely, only one place in Chinatown carried them, but they had a ton of different types and could explain the pluses and minuses of each type. Flat bottom was intended for electric stoves for example, while a completely curved bottom sitting on a collar works better for gas stoves. We got a cheaper one that didn't last too long sadly. Our current one; A NordicWare Chinese wok made in the USA, LOL
