Weird looking tri tip

Postby JustinCouch » Fri Feb 08, 2019 2:51 pm

I went to my local source for meat to get a tri tip and some beef short ribs. I'm looking forward to the short ribs but the piece of meat he handed me looked nothing like the tri tips you see on line. Maybe y'all can sort this out for me.

the top pic looks like a rib plate, the bottom some sort of shoulder roast, I could be wrong, have been before, will be again at the most inopportune time.... :dont:

I had a funny-looking tri-tip in the package last weekend. It ended up being a 3 pounder, larger than I was used to, and they had to fold part of it under to fit in the packaging. I'm not sure that explains your picture, but ... maybe? :dont:

It was great. I can't wait to do another one. Next time I am going to show the butcher a picture of what I want though. It was half of a tri tip.

May have been another picanha just labeled as tri tip. Looks nothing like a tri tip, and certainly not a large one cut in half.

Aside from what I see in the pic, I did some deductive reasoning based on pics of previous cuts from the same retailer..

 looks like a delicious cook, whatever cut of meat it is -- medium rare, sliced thin, with a peppery bark. I'm getting hungry just looking at it!
