Don't Kick Me Out!

Postby Sailor Kenshin » Sat Jul 27, 2019 5:19 pm

...for using a George Foreman Grill! It's one of those indoor/outdoor mechanisms that looks like the Jupiter 2, only red. :laughing7:

We found it in the garage and decided to give it a real run for the money. Today, ten bone-in, skin-on chicken thighs, heavily seasoned with Sailor's Secret rub.

Didn't want to overcrowd and steam, so we did them in two batches. Some of the pieces were huuuge, and underdone. After cutting off the done portions for later freezing, we 'sanitized' the raw-ish meat still clinging to the bone with a brief scorch on the mini-gasser. Very carbonized, but for nostalgia reasons (Dad, Weber, lighter fluid, summer), eating it that way made me happy.

Served with HOMEMADE lemon/lime-ade and some Dole slaw.

Tons of leftover meat to vac-seal.

Oh...OUP? I threw out our bottle of Worst Ever sauce. Can I stay?

I’d eat that. Nothing wrong with the George Foreman.

Funny story - my Dad loved Earl Campbell’s hot links. When the George Foreman first came out he thought it was the coolest thing ever that he could cook his hot links inside. The funny part was that somehow he convinced himself (and attempted to convince everyone else) that cooking the links on the George Foreman made them healthier

Sailor Mam, that's the only thing that could save banishment so you're still OK unless you boil a rack of ribs in it. :laughing7:  :D

Sooner Pal, I still splurge and get some Tyler Rose Links every now and then. :salut:

it worked better than I expected for an electric grill. So it's been saved from banishment to the cornfield.

WV,

This is on a black plastic pedestal, with a metal dome (ours is red) that has a thermometer in it.
We got it years ago, but never used it much.

Yup, same as ours just different color.
Had ours when we had an apartment in the mid to late 90's.

We cooked the teflon coating right off of it lol.

The test continues.

Tried a whole meal in it: two steaks (one w/SB Campfire, other w/Sailor's Secret), lemon pepper zuc and yellow squash, East Coast Toast.

It's...okay. We prefer steak on the mini-Weber...better char, more flavor, less cleanup...but you really can make an entire meal in this. Al least for two!

Grabbed some more test food from Aldi, which will be making an appearance soon: Sweet Chili Swordfish, and a huge refrigerator pizza, which will be duly augmented. :laughing7:

George is a Houston native and obviously one of the biggest hitters ever, people here sure got a kick out of his commercials too.

Now Sailor, if yer next trick is to whip out the ‘ol Popiel Pocket Fisherman, the Executive Committee is going to demand an inspection tour of yer garage, because we’d suspect Jimmy Hoffa is stuck up off on a shelf in there somewhere.
BE WELL, BUT NOT DONE
Hank: "Do you know how to start a man's heart with a downed power line?"
Bobby: "No."
Hank: "Well, there's really no wrong way to do it."
