Current Source for whole Pigs?

Postby Damon54 » Tue Jul 19, 2011 9:28 am

I am in the Dallas area and am actively seeking sources.

I hear Columbia Meat Packing has frozen on a per order basis. Tad over $3.25 per lb.
Many of the Mexican Meat Markets are apparently worth a look.

I hear tale of a place in Forney that has fresh whole pigs but have not tracked down that source yet. Anybody have more info?

Try Hayes Farms in Mansfield, they will slaughter and process or leave whole.
How bout some more beans Mr.Taggert? I'd say you've had enough!

Pit is here now so the search for a Pig Supplier is more pressing. Any updates?

The Fiesta at Webb's Chapel and Lombardy Lane in Dallas has them in the cooler by the meat market in the back.

Couldn't tell you if if has been frozen. This store is by my office and they typically have very fresh meat.

Colombia has fresh pigs as well. They are not very good about supplying the exact size you want however. I ordered a whole hog to dress at 100# and received a 140# dressed. The frozen is whole and they control weight better. The fresh is whatever comes in that week within a couple of days prior to your pick up time. The only reason I order fresh is that I want them cut in half to fit my two drum cookers. They will not/ can not cut frozen. If you need the backbone split you will have the same problem unless you can defrost and then split yourself for a flat hog cooker.

Hope this helps.

Terry's Market in Lewisville has whole dressed pigs as well. I'm sure they always have them in stock as they are advertised. I don't remember the price but it seemed reasonable to me.
They have several locations around DFW but I have only been to Lewisville.

Jeff @ the Ye Ole Butcher Shoppe in Plano informed me that they have fresh hogs from the 30-40, 40-50 & 50-60lb. range.

Once dressed it would pretty much take "HogZilla" not to fit in the Johnson Smoker.
