Granny's Crackers
When my oldest stepson sent me this recipe, I was MORE THAN DOUBTFUL that it was correct. Even so much that I sent several emails to him asking him to ask the "donor" if she really meant what she wrote. WELL, let me tell you that I was more than surprised to find out that this recipe works and IT'S GOOD.
Granny's Crackers
One box of Nabisco Crackers
One and one half Cups of Canola Oil (here's where I questioned it big time)
One package of Ranch Salad Mix
One Tblsp each of Dill Weed, Sesame Seed and Red Pepper Flakes
Directions:
Put crackers in a VERY large jar
Mix dry ingredients into Canola Oil and stir well
Pour that mix into the jar with the Crackers
(Trust Me OK? here's where I saw soggy crackers but that was NOT the case)
Then gently roll the jar on the counter, floor or where ever is convenient (I used the counter)
Do this for about 15 minutes and then "munch out"
LET ME ADD one thing to this recipe, if I may.
The next time I fix these awesome snacks I will use some different spices (HEAT)
But they are good and NOT SOGGY just as Granny said

Re: Granny's Crackers
to pick your brain, do you think extra virgin olive oil would work instead of the canola?

Re: Granny's Crackers
Pal, I really don't know HOW these could be better except for some extra or replacement seasonings with some heat and etc - - - the Canola Oil did just what Granny said it would and the crackers were not at all soggy or soft

Re: Granny's Crackers
OK you got me.. I had to give it a try...
I had some ranch dressing mix that I mixed with 1/2 sharp paprika( I have used this mix on chicken), so I added the dill, 1/3 cup of peanut oil(that is what I use for frying) some sesame seeds, mixed the dry ingredients in the oil, only had a quart size jar, so used one sleeve of saltines and did the shaky rollie thing.... pretty darn good snacks now to find a bigger jar....

They are like lay's chip's, "you can't eat just one". I have used a large zip lock bag to mix and that work's pretty well.

I too have made these, however with only 1/2 a cup of oil. They are addicting for sure.

Re: Granny's Crackers
I'm curious what granny really used, cause I am sure it wasn't a ranch mix packet
