Deep fried ice cream

Postby Kiwiruss » Wed Mar 22, 2017 4:26 pm

We were recently at a Chinese restaurant with our dinner group, there's 14 of us that enjoy food and meet at a different restaurant the 1st wed of every month,on the menu was deep fried ice cream, but they only had 2 portions left, so the ones that got it raved about it. Anyway I was flicking through a Chinese cooking book and came across the recipe. We have 4 of our friends coming for dinner this sat night so im making this dish as a surprise. Pics to follow, I've started by putting a tray in the freezer then I put 10 vanilla scoops on top of it to harden before I dip and crumb. I've got 5 for our friends, and 5 for my kids to try on Sunday. It has a caramel syrup with it. Wife grows our own strawberries so ill be serving also with a strawberry coulis I made from our berries.

Love fried ice cream and its ability to confound the laws of physics.

There was a Lady in Cleveland Texas where I grew up that had a Fried Ice Cream Shop - - - what I remember the most was "get in line early"

Many years ago there was a Tia's Tex Mex in Carrollton Tx…I swear the fried ice cream was the only good thing on the menu. Man, it was good…

I've heard crushed cornflakes are used often instead of breadcrumbs.

I just went on my trusty site YUMMLY and it's riddled with fried ice cream recipes.
So many use cornflakes, lots of variations.

I've never had it but I want it now

Treat yaself wv, my kids love dessert and can't wait to try it. Took me 10 mins to scoop and put back in freezer. Dredging tonight.
I can't wait to serve it,, deep fried for 30 secs, voila!

Ok I decided on the plain breadcrumbs, made a choc mousse, deep fried the ice cream and served with caramel sauce, my wife doesn't do any cooking but she likes to set the plates, jugs, etc. I just have to put it on the plate, she presents the plate and takes the credit, lmao. See what ya think. Entree was cheesy garlic bread, main was slow roast shoulder of lamb and assorted veges, no pic I'm sorry. It went so quick.

Oops, just realised pic is on phone, will send myself the pic. Back soon.
