After going picking last week, we found ourselves with over a gallon of fresh berries. Since then, they've been turning up everywhere. These were dessert tonight, and were a bit hit. The family polished off 3 dozen! (I had 4, it was the rest of the hogs who done it. ) Good touch of almond and lemon, not too sweet. Wife did the baking, but I made the dough last night. Definitely will be doing it again.

2 cups flour, all purpose
2 tsp baking powder
1/2 tsp salt
1/2 cup vegetable shortening (I used butter)
1 cup sugar
1 egg
1/4 cup milk
1 tsp almond extract
1 1/2 tsp grated lemon zest
1 cup blueberries
1. Combine flour, baking powder, and salt and set aside.
2. In a large bowl or mixer (like a KitchenAid), cream the shortening and sugar. Beat in the egg.milk, extract, and zest.
3. Gradually add the flour mixture.
4. Once blended, gently fold in the berries.
5. Cover and chill for at least 4 hours.
6. Preheat the oven to 375°. Drop spoonfuls of dough onto a sheet (recipe says ungreased, but ours stuck) at least 1 inch apart. Bake for 12-15 minutes, until lightly colored. Transfer to a wire rack and cool.

Not much for sweets, but those sure sound good, and blueberries are supposed to be good for a body - got it saved for the wife to try.
