Pig in a blanket

Postby 2PUPs » Sun Mar 28, 2010 12:32 pm

I always loved these things , wondering if anyone has a recipe and a way of doing them on a smoker .

One way I have done is to wrap them in Pillsbury Crescent Roll dough. You know the kind in a can that you pop open and bake. Works good.

2pups.....Give me a chance to go through a huge stash of cookbooks. I bet I can find something in the Dutch oven cookbook or a camping cookbook. I've got so many and hardly ever cook from them. Now aint that dumb?

Got any cream cheese recipes? Everything taste better with cream cheese! :P

Cheap store bread (like wonderbread), wieners, butter, toothpicks. Slather the cheap supermarket bread with butter on one side. Place slice of bread butter side down on palm of hand. Place wiener across center of slice. Squirsh bread around wiener. Secure with toothpick if needed. Repeat. Bake at 325° or smoke indirect at high heat till toasted and wiener is hot. That's how they made 'em in elementary school except they used oleo instead of butter.

Try using different types or flavor of sausages and maybe make your own bread dough. Maybe sourdough and Jalapeno sausage.

That's just it Dats....of all the cookbooks and even a google search or two, I didn't find the old fashion pigs. Most use crescent rolls. I did find this site, but by the time I started reading some, I was frustrated. Kinda like the Google Overload commercial.

After reading this again, it sounds down right rude of me. That's not at all what I ment to say about helping a fellow BBQer out.

Not finding the answer I wanted... when I wanted it... was the "heat" of my post. Sorry.

I've never tried this, but a friend of mine said they wrap the hotdogs or sausage with pizza dough. It sounds like it would work good.

2 PUPs here is one to try on the smoker or off

You'll get the idea on this

Smoked Pigs in the Blanket Hj’s

Smoke the sausage links with any wood on the smoker U prefer ñ than bake them into Phyilo dough or crescent dough AFTER smoking !! Adding cheese or jalapeños YUM Anything you want I'm kind of thinking of a pigs-in-a-blanket-wrapped-in-bacon-stuffed first by smoking n finish with-cheese in the blanket of choice thing! Even roasted green chilies alone or with garlic n onions while smoking.

Wrapping the little sausages with bacon BEFORE smoking ñ or before wrapping cut slices of jalapeño ñ wrap jalapeños between sausage ñ bacon hold together with wet toothpick -after smoking links than make UR pigs in the blanket-with adding some cheese.-YUM
filo sheets are flakier ñ DO NOT forget to brush tops with butter whether using filo sheets or Pillsbury
or try using wraps ñ deep frying them also.

Notes ~ cheese many to choose from so experiment ñ enjoy..I would use different cheeses on each one for variety. Than next time U can choose which cheese or variety U like..Enjoy :D
A mistake is sometimes a great creation

When went camping last week ,the kids started cooking biscuits on a stick and I just so happened to be cooking some sausage, instead of putting jelly I slipped a piece of sausage, instant kolache. Great stuff.
How bout some more beans Mr.Taggert? I'd say you've had enough!
