Help, on a diet
Might not be real popular, but could any of you share your favorite "not so fattening" dishes?

Re: Help, on a diet
We eat a lot of grilled fish, chicken, and veggies. If you do a search you will come up with a lot of posts containing grilled foods that might be to your liking.

Re: Help, on a diet
Remove the BBQ sauce/glaze from the ribs, chicken, brisket and you'll made a huge improvement calorie wise. If you drink good beer (eg: Guiness), switch to barely pop or wine. If you drink spirits cut out the high sugar content mixers. Shy away or limit (most) foods that are white.
Note that "fat free" and "diet" aren't the same thing. When they take the fat out, it takes not so good so sugar gets added.
Seems to work for me.

i shave 20lbs doing the opposite. knock off the ribs and brisket. BBQ sauce is not that bad. just don't drown it in sauce on the table, but cook with it all you want.
we do a LOT of skinless chicken breasts, I cut the bbq sauce w/ lime juice and soak for an hr. then i roast them w/ lots of smoke on the egg.

Re: Help, on a diet
Guess the key is to do what works for you. A cup of brisket (the flat, braised) has 310 calories, a full spare rib has about 290. If smoked so the fat renders out, those numbers are probably lower. Less than a big mac or whopper.
But I respectfully disagree that BBQ sauce isn't that bad. A cup of Sweet Baby Ray's Original BBQ sauce has 560 calories in a cup (8 suggested servings per cup, 2 level tablespoons per serving). You can see how that that could add 1,000 calories to a rack of spares if glazing.

Re: Help, on a diet
I took my trusty readin glasses in today to the store and decided to check the Sugar content of diff sauces, Man I can not believe the amount of sugar in these things lol SBR Chipotle 18g Kraft original 14 and on and on Stubbs is about the best with 4g
I have tried this on in the past its sugar free and not too bad I added some chipotle to it to spice it up a little

Re: Help, on a diet
My old man & his cholesterol...(we cheat alot) I found that marinating boneless chicken in different fruit juices works well. Fresh squeezed works good too. Then just add some salt free spices. Orange juice & Chinese five spice is one of my favs. Works with fish too.
