apricot bbq sauce?????

Postby bjfowle » Thu Jun 10, 2010 9:21 pm

I was given a bunch of apricots today. It's way more than I will ever eat so I thought I might use them to make a bbq sauce for the pulled pork I'm smoking for fathers day. I've never even made a bbq sauce before so I need some help. If anyone has a recipe they could share it would be greatly appreciated.

I found this recipe on a cooking blog, good luck on the pulled pork.
1/2 c. apricot nectar
1/4 c. cider vinegar
2 tbsp. brown sugar (packed)
1 tsp. salt
1/2 tsp. oregano
1/2 c. catsup
1/4 c. oil
2 tbsp. grated onion
1/2 tsp. Worcestershire sauce
Dash of hot pepper sauce
Combine all ingredients in saucepan. Heat to boil 1 minute. Makes 1 1/3 cups.
How bout some more beans Mr.Taggert? I'd say you've had enough!

I'm thinking you're going to have to cook down the apricots (stew with some good water and perhaps a tad bit of sugar) till mush then strain out the chunky stuff and use that for the base of your sauce. Kinda of like when grandma made jelly/jam.

Use the apricots to make a sauce in the blender - think "tomato sauce" consistency. Then use that in place of ketchup or tomato sauce in a decent BBQ Sauce recipe...there are lots of them out there.
