Cream Chipped Beef aka SOS
Since moving down here the wife and kids have been missing creamed chipped beef. The wife has tried HEB and a few other places but has been unable to locate any chipped beef. Back in the northeast you could find it everywhere (typically next to the hot dogs) in vac sealed packages. Any idea where to find this stuff in Central Texas?

I think the only thing you'll find will be by the canned meats. It's in a jar, about 4 oz. or so. Made by Hormel, I believe.

I think Stouffers makes a frozen version too.
Another idea. Save some of your next sliced up brisket and pop into a dehydrator until dry.

Thanks guys... Since the stuff is so light and keeps pretty well I was able to talk some family into shipping a pound of some fresh stuff to me. Using 3oz at a time that should last me at least a month or two.

Is this the type of stuff that your looking for? Have never tried it, but usually see it over on the isle with canned stews, wolf brand chili and stuff like that.

James- It is pretty much the same stuff but the stuff I am really looking for is fresh and requires refrigeration.
Here is a link to the stuff: http://www.walmart.com/catalog/product. ... d=10452276

Humm... Can't say that I've seen that. But then again, I've never looked for it. I'll keep an eye out for it.

IMHO, the stuff is like turkey bacon or Pringles. Had a sample once at Costco. Probably just my personal bias, but any thing saying ground, formed & sliced gets a no go from me. SPAM doesn't count as it isn't sliced and no one knows if it was ground or formed

In a pinch, the Hormel stuff works, or even some thin jerky if you don't mind the bigger chunks.

I use the Hormel brand, because it is what we have. I like it fine. Makes good sos, kinda pricey. CF

We used to have that for breakfast in the chow hall all the time, haven't had it in years and now suddenly I am wanting some with a pile of scrambled eggs and pork and beans.
Never met a cow I didn't like with a little salt and pepper.
