First question of probably many

Postby DerKoch » Thu Oct 29, 2009 11:00 pm

I use a dry rub I make myself. What I am looking for is some either ideas or even store bought rubs that I can try. the other is I have never used a wet rub. What is in it and is it available in a store brand that is worth it.

You can start by trying the rubs from SuckleBusters. Check out sucklebusters.com

Double dittos on the Sucklebusters! My favorite right now is the Hoochie Mama rub! Great of brisket and ribs... My second fav would be the Hogwaller. Great on anything pork! They also have a great BBQ sauce and the pepper sauces rock too!

Can't be of much help with wet rubs other than to say I haven't been impressed enough by the results I gotten to take the time to do it again.

I haven't tried a wet rub yet, although when I use a slather or when I use a high salt rub that draws out some liquid, the rub ends up wet. You could try a puree of onions and garlic along with some woosher and what ever rub you are going to use.

As far as rub recipes go, here are a few that I would like to try:

http://www.amazingribs.com/recipes/rubs ... _ribs.html" target="_blank

http://www.davidtinney.net/barbecue-rib ... ecipe.html" target="_blank

http://www.cbbqa.org/wiki/index.php?title=BBQ_FAQ:_Rubs" target="_blank

Also, one of my favorites for beef, simple but good.

1 cup Kosher or Sea Salt
1 cup course ground or crushed Tellicherry Peppercorns (It MUST be Tellicherry black pepper)
Cayenne pepper to taste (I use about 2 TBLS)
You could also add a TBLS or two of garlic and onion powder

As far as Store bought, I agree with the others, SuckleBusters is a great brand. I like them all, but my two favorites are Hoochie Mama and Campfire Steak Seasoning.

I have also tried several of the Obie-cue line up and they are decent. The Sweet Rub is the most popular, but I prefer Hoochie Mama with sugar added or Hog Waller.

Some others that I have read competitors use is Bad Byron's But Rub and Billy Bone's Competition and Cherry XXX, I have not tried these though.

I also like making my own rubs, but I do not always have time or I just want to try something new. It's kinda like that commercial....."I don't always drink beer, but when I do....", I don't always buy Rubs, but when I do, it's SuckleBuster!!!
