For bulk spices 1 lb bag or 32 oz shaker?

Postby Gator » Mon Jun 06, 2011 10:11 am

I'm wondering if the 1lb bags or 32 oz shakers make more sense for bulk spices?

We typically only sell the 32 oz shaker, but could alternatively do the 1lb bags? The shakers hold 1 - 1.5 lbs of product, depending on the spice. Alternatively we could offer 1/2 LB bags...?

Shakers for me, but I prefer the 12 ozers so the spicers are fresher and dont sit too long.

The 12 oz bottles are expensive, I tried those but the jars cost so much that they drive up the price of the product...not sure why they are so expensive... :(

Maybe cause they come with a screw on cap in addition to the cap with the holes?, just guessing. I like those type better cause the ones with the flip tops always get spices or rubs in the hinges and wont close right after some use.

I think one thing working against the 12 oz shaker it is the volume of product, which is much less that the 32 oz shaker. A lot of the cost of this type stuff is the labor required to make it. Making a 32 oz shaker is about the same amount of labor as a 12 oz jar, but there is more $ to spread out the costs on the bigger jar...
