Newbee needs help

Postby Dom_pud » Sat Feb 08, 2014 6:51 am

So I am having some mates over and have made a chili using a recipe I found only, it looks, smells and tastes great but... The heat kicks in very late, almost an after taste, what can I add to bring some heat into the earlier tastes? At the moment it has cayenne, chilli powder, cumin, oregano and paprika, the recipe called for fresh chilli as well (type is users choice depending on heat preference) and garlic would this bring some heat forward in the taste?

You can add some fresh Jalapeno or Serrano chiles to bring the heat forward. The seeds and membrane is where the heat is so use accordingly.

BTW Welcome to the forum glad ta have ya. Where ya from?

Both are Great suggestions if you go with the Fresh cut a slit in the side of each pepper, JM2C here to much Front heat is a No Bueno for me as it numbs the taste buds. I prefer it to come on late in the game IMO it enhances the overall experience great flavor rounded out by back heat gets that Ying &Yang thing goin on.
Never met a cow I didn't like with a little salt and pepper.

Thanks for the advice, in the end I put in 1 jalapeño and two very small scotch bonnets, pulsed together with a couple of garlic cloves and a spoon full of the chili to make it easier to mix through.

Resulted in a good flavour throughout with a nice front heat in the mid range that built will at the end as it had been before.

Again thanks for the advice, this forum was a great find!
And in answer to Papa Tom I'm actually from the UK near Bath
