Meat Grinders. Need help.
Hey all. Me and my dad are going to make our own deer sausage this season. I'm looking at different meat grinders. We were at Cabela's and they have a Cabela's Meat Grinder that goes from .5 to 1.75 horsepower. We were looking and some country dude comes up to us and tells us to stay away from those. He gets our email and sends us this link and says he uses the ts-110...

We don't know meat grinders at all. I mean, it's a third of the price of the cabela's grinder. Any help would be great.
Thanks.

Re: Meat Grinders. Need help.
I have owned two of that style of meat grinders called a "personal grinder" and it was slow especially with game being tougher to grind. That grinder lasted about two years, I even bought my wife a new top of the line Kitchen aide mixer, being cheap and added the meat grinder, lasted one month before I became frustrated with that ordeal. I purchased a 1.5 HP from Cabelas in one of their white tent sales at the store and just love it. We can make 50 pounds of sausage literally as fast as i can feed it in. I then bought the jerky slicer attachment and it is wonderfully fast. I never could get the knack of the sausage stuffer tubes on the grinder so I waited until the 20# stuffer was on sale and now we do the hunter sticks and that is wonderful as well, all Cabela's products. For what's it worth...

Steel gears.... don't look at anything with plastic gears.

I have a LEM #22. Won't trade it for anything. Like Brentski, I've had a smaller cheaper personal grinder. It worked OK for small things, quick hamburger whatever. Here's a link for the LEM

Good luck, just don't cheap out.

I also got mine from LEM and could not be happier. I had a hand grinder and a smaller electric grinder. The LEM is by far the best. I am not familiar with Cabela's models, so I cannot speak to those.

Here is the one I ended up with last year and have been completely happy with it. I chose this one over similar models because it has metal gears and the others I looked at did not. http://www2.northerntool.com/food-proce ... 168620.htm

Re: Meat Grinders. Need help.
I have a inexpensive Cabelas model that I have used quite a lot and am happy with it so far. One big benefit of this grinder is the stainless cutters and dies, no rust problems with this thing. Plastic gears but parts list is included and I have not had any failures.

Fixing to order one of these Toby, have you tried out for stuffing or just grinding?
Also had a great time at Papa Tom's, the man knows his sausage.
How bout some more beans Mr.Taggert? I'd say you've had enough!

Stuffing with the grinder is a PITA, but doable. I wouldn't want to do a lot that way, but will handle some smaller jobs with a few &@%^* mixed in.

I own the same one from northern tool. Its been great. I have probably ground 100 or so pounds of meat through it, made about 50lbs of sausage at the beginning of summer. I had a learning curve with the stuffer attachment, but I once I figured it out, heck I could not keep up with the machine! Great machine about to go through its 4th year with no problems!
