Tilapia :dont: as I mentioned to T-Dragon above, the only Catfish around here that's worth the effort is from a commercial fisherman. :salut: :texas:

I prefer river cats over farm raised. The wife doesn't have the same admiration for catfish as I. River cats are cleaner tasting and she is not into that distinct flavor you get from catfish. When we took our trip to New Braunfels for our anniversary vacation, we got some fishing in. Caught some catfish and I showed her the difference between pond raised and river fish. Lol. She definitely liked the river version over the others.

Cod/Haddock Flounder and Salmon for me.
I also prefer River swimmers and I try not to eat any Farm Raised fish or seafood just a preference.
I do however Love Deep fried Blackened Catfish :)

The packaged Tilapia at HEB has been holding pretty good as far as taste goes but I agree, fish in moving waters seem to taste much fresher and cleaner - - - AND the catfish at the Grocery Stores is uneatable for me, especially when they've left the black skin on and you get that oily fishy taste YUCK - - - fortunately there are still some locals around here that you can buy live catfish from - - - that's one reason I have never gotten rid of my "plars".

We’ve had pretty good luck with catfish from Costco and Kroger around here. BUT - there is no substitute for some fresh caught crappie in my opinion. Fishing trips don’t come as often as they used to so…Costco and Kroger for cats it is

Thanks, for the tip, I may check Kroger out and see what happens. Is the Cat you're talking about prepackaged or from the market ?
You are soooooo right about the sac-a-leit best fish that ever took a hook. :salut:
