Cornbread in the Cabbage Patch
Don't know why I always end up waiting to cook this dish until the Cooler Weather rolls in but I do. It's one of "Our" favorite meals when it's cooler outside.
I was at HEB this morning at 7AM and was home at 8AM with plenty of time to fix this and a Peanut Butter Pie which is chillin as I type. Had to flip a coin to decide whether the pot-liquor soppin was gonna be Martha White Sweet Yeller Cornbread or some Fried Hot Water Cornbread Patties and Martha won the toss so Lunch is done and down.
Altho the Recipe has S&P, I dusted my bowl with some Suckle Busters Jalapeno Texas Gun Powder

Re: Cornbread in the Cabbage Patch
Thanks, Gang, a dear departed friend of mine used to bring a big pot of it to the Deer Camp on Opening Weekend and everyone always enjoyed it.
Since then it has been lovingly called "Bettye Kelly's Cabbage Patch Stew"

Oh dang, how did I miss this? Care to share the recipe, or is it a guarded hunting camp thing?!

You are more than welcome, Chef Sir
Please excuse this copy of an old water stained print but that's the way I received it so, out of respect, it has remained as such.

Sounds like a great dish on cold days. Only made cornbread once, big success among my family.
Your combo looks great.

Re: Cornbread in the Cabbage Patch
One thing that I learned the hard way on this dish is to be sure you cut the Cabbage in larger pieces/chunks or you'll end up with soup and not stew

Is there a shrimp in there too? Just below the spoon?

Thanks a ton, EM! I'm a big cabbage fan and given that winter is rapidly approaching, this would be great to warm the spirit!
I love the original print also. Lets you see it's been around a while.

Re: Cornbread in the Cabbage Patch
Warmed up some Leftover Cabbage Patch today and decided to fix some "Corn Dodgers" (per Rooster Cogburn). Some called it Hot Water Cornbread or Fried Cornbread. Today I didn't have the usual Self Rising Cornmeal so I used Regular Cornmeal and they were OK but I like the Self Rising best because they fry up thicker, it seems.
