Boston Baked Beans
So I've been wanting to use our Boston Bean Pot for years and tonight was time to break it in. I love this thing, simple and efficient and produces perfectly cooked Beans.
Went with a mix of 2 different recipes I found. One came with the pot and the other online, both similar so I incorporated a little of both which made a great tasting Baked Beans.
Went with 6 Cups Of Water for the ( Bean Liquor ), Navy Beans, Triple Smoked Bacon, Vidalia Onions Chopped, Dried Mustard, A Good Maple Syrup, Smoked Ham Hocks, LOTS of Brown Sugar, Butter & Molasses.
About 4 hrs in the oven at 325 and the kitchen smells great !
Too late to eat now but the sample was delicious. Tomorrow should be better once the juices/liquid thicken up a bit.

Re: Boston Baked Beans
Woody, I saw some place in Boston on the food channel the other night that did beans in crocks like that. They are apparently famous for them. Our little go to neighborhood Mexican joint makes the best barrocho beans around. I would like to try a baked bean style like that.

I’ve seen the Boston baked bean on TV as well. Not sure I realized you actually cooked them in that pot. Your beans look outstanding Woody.

Yeah man, Boston Baked Beans are a staple in Boston. If you are ever up in New England, especially the Boston area you gotta give em a try. If you are driving bring lots of patience ,and good car shocks/struts, the streets in Boston make NYC streets look organized, lol.Lots of Cobblestone roads which are actually pretty kool.GRailsback wrote:Woody, I saw some place in Boston on the food channel the other night that did beans in crocks like that. Anyone that's driven there will tell you the same thing...Rotary...Rotary...Rotary...Rotary...
Sorry, got side tracked...
As for the Bean Crock, its kind of like the whole French Onion Soup deal. To be authentic, you need the Crocks !

I've never made them till last night but have had them many times.
Yes sir, anywheres from 3- 4.5 hrs, depends on your heat source, type of Bean, weather or not you soak them overnight or not. ( I did NOT )and how much liquid " called the Bean Liquor ' you use.
The little Crock is extremely insulated and designed just for Beans. I think you girls and guys down south would like one of these Bean Pots

On the sweet side, oniony, bacony? If you add in some, there's also the tomato aspect from ketchup.
