Ham Help if you Please

Postby OldUsedParts » Tue Dec 15, 2020 5:19 pm

I probably bought my Smithfield Hardwood Cooked Ham too early but I got it and now I need to know what to do until time to cook it.

SHOULD I FREEZE IT UNTIL A COUPLE OF DAYS PRIOR TO HEATING AND GLAZING OR WILL IT KEEP IN THE FRIG FOR 9 DAYS :?:
When I tried to peel back the label to where the Cooking Instructions were, the label came all to pieces so I'll have to wait until I can unwrap the ham to read them.

It will keepfor weeks while wrapped and in the fridge, if it was me I'd freeze and get it out 2 days before, like you said. I do exact same New Year's Eve, Easter and cup, week.
Glaze
300mls equal amounts, maple syrup, bourbon, apricot sauce, mix with small jar honey grain mustard. 50 to 100mls. It really is a nice glaze. Good luck.

It costs nothing to be nice. A smile goes a long way.

I bought mine last weekend and I think the Best By date was feb 1 so I tossed it in the refrigerator

Zooming in I think yours ends in 21 as well.

I would freeze it then thaw at the appropriate time.

Thanks Y'all NOW one more Question Pleas:

The Directions say to heat this 10# ham at 325 for 15 -20 min per pound which seems too much. :?: :?: :?:
SOOOOOOO when do I start brushing the Glaze on it???????

The 325° is a good temp to heat at. 15 min. per lb. is more doable but I always rely on internal temp not time. I glaze my spiral cuts at 135° looking for an internal finished temp of 140°.

I twice smoke a spiral cut ham every Christmas but no glaze as I like to use the bone and left over ham in a 15 bean soup. I cook turkey and sausage gumbo for Christmas Eve.

We somehow ended up with two hams so I know what we're having for Christmas. And Easter.
