Cabbage, Blackeyes and Indian Fry Bread
It has been a custom all of my Life to always eat Cabbage and Blackeyed Peas on New Years Day and this year I also decided to pay honor to the Native American Fry Bread. There's lots of Cherokee blood on my Dad's side of the Family we used to go to the Annual Pow Pow at the Alabama Choushata Reservation the first of every June and the older Ladies would make Fry Bread Tacos all night until the drums, chants and dancers would stop. My Family nicknamed it "Hey Ya Hey Ya", however, we haven't had a chance to gather at the "Hey Ya Hey Ya" in a long time.
So here's our New Years Dinner of "Cabbage Patch Stew" with "Hoppin John Blackeyed Peas" and a side of Navajo Fry Bread.
My good neighbors down the street had given me some Jalapeno Jelly and Jalapeno HONEY for Christmas and I used it in the Dessert Form of Fry Bread with my Cabbage. (psst. the white stuff is powdered sugar)
HEY YA HEY YA

It's been in my Family ever since I can remember. When the original handle broke on the lid my Dad replaced it with a wooden thread spool and when that finally broke I put in the Eye Bolt so you gotta watch you fingers sometimes when the Pot gets hot. I've known what the brand is but have forgotten but as soon as it's empty I'll clean and snap a pic of the printing on the bottom. I've heard it called "hammered Aluminum"
Here's the Recipe if you would like it.
Ms. Betty's Husband would bring a large pot of this opening weekend of Deer Season every year and we had to keep it locked in his truck until opening night's supper or it would be half gone.

Always wondered why they call it Hoppin Johnny; figure it was fer the puttin of peppers in yer peas (Peppie la Peas!). Made those “Appaloosa Beans” fer NYs too to go with Smokin Pig From Outta Space (separate post to come).
But that fry bread, hoogie boogie... never make the pot with me, I’d be eating the dough alone.

Mighty fine looking Meal OUP.
I am thinking the pot is a Club aluminum ware piece.

Thanks Ladies and Boots
and thanks, KAM, I think you've nailed it because the Club Aluminum really rings a bell for some reason.
Pot will be able to be looked at better shortly and then we'll know.

Wow, thanks! We once had a more modern (enameled) Club Aluminum set. Should have kept it, those pots and pans were great.
