I think most comps say no electricity to cook I can be wrong.

I used a crockpot at home for years and always cooked small red beans. People loved them, but when I started comp cooking I switched to pintos and I use a pot and gas burner on my stove.
I hit regularly with beans, but man nothing beats a crockpot cooker full beans it's much easier to manage. Just now I have grown partial to my pot, lol.

IBCA doesnt care how you cook the beans, they are just a jackpot category. Other organizations or promoters may differ.
