Cook-off practice
I have been kicking around the idea of having a mock cook-off at the house. I was thinking we could get a group of guys together, cook as if it were a cook off with turn in times, judges and everything. It would be different in the fact that there wouldnt be a winner but you would actually get comments from the judges about what they liked or disliked about your turn in. They would still score it as if it were a normal cook off though. Possibly even turn in multiple entries/recipes to see what the judges like better. Would any of you guys be interested in doing this? I think it would be awesome to get together and share ideas and practice in a comp setting. I have some land where we could get about 10-15 set up with no problem. We dont have to divuldge secret information but more just help each other out with ideas. I'm thinking sometime in mid August.... Let me know your thoughts.

I think that would be awesome. it might be beneficial also if some of the more senior/experienced cooks who don't need the practice would be willing to sponsor or coach up and coming cooks/teams and show them some of the basics/ropes on competition cooking. you could schedule maybe a 30-60 minute talk with some of the newbies (like me) and give them a really good overview of how a competition is run. i'm sure there'd be lots of questions, and most likely a lot more knowledge to be shared if you get 10-15 teams together in one place.
August is horrible for me too - and September is no better. but October would be perfect, not that my schedule is more important than anyone else's.
really like this idea though. even if I didn't bring my cooker out, i'd still come just to ask questions and borrow some experience.

Re: Cook-off practice
I agree on the terrible temps....I was looking at the cook off scheudles and trying to find a time when we could get the most benifit from it by having the most people attend.
So how does everyones October look?
I will also work with some rub/sauce vendors to see if the would be interested in donating some products for us to taste.
This is going to be a free event and I think everyone that attends will benifit is some way..... Let me know your thoughts.

Re: Cook-off practice
Late October is better for me. the wife will not let me reschedule vacation plans.
it would be interesting if the practice could be scheduled around some big concert, event, school or church thing that we could sell/donate all the Q to that will be made? well, maybe not all of it...
