WSM for $120

Buy it now on E bay for $120 or current bid of $79. Doesn't look like a Weber Smokey Mtn to me.

That's a ProBBQ smoker. The guy that builds them is a member of this forum. He hasn't posted in a while though. They are built in the UK if I remember right.

Unless Ian moved from the UK to Kentucky, that's not him.

Plus, this smoker is 18.5". Last I knew, Ian's ProQ smokers were 17.5" and more rounded.

Ian has several distributors in the US and Canada now. I went back and read the add and it said 17" cooking grids and in the description it says ProBBQ. It still may not be one of his but it sure looks similar.

It is neither a WSM or a PRO smoker. I forgot the name. It is similar to the ECB. Check out the bottom. The WSM & Pro have round bottoms and are enclosed. I believe this one to have an open bottom.

Sure looks that way to me. Seems like if "Smokey Mountain" is in the name, Weber has an open & shut case of copywrite infringement. Counterfeit smokers....go figure.

Went to Ian's site, he must be doing good. He has 6 distributors in the US and Canada now. Tx, you're right the ProBBQ is very rounded top and bottom.
Wonder how the guy selling them can get away with using the WSM & ProBBQ names in his description ???

If I remember right, the Weber company let the copyright (or is it trademark name) of Smokey Mountain Cooker expire earlier this year. If I remember the article right they had no intention of renewing it.

I just tried searching for the article at the Virtual Bullet. I couldn't find it.

They do look similar and it's possibly just a production change, but between the one no ebay and the one on the ProBBQ site, the lid and handles are different, the thermo location is changed.

It's not one of ours, or Webers, though I have seen one in the flesh before and it's nowhere near the same quality, for instance the joins between each chamber are very loose (wide gaps) and the lid fits in a manner similar to the ECB (poorly).
We had to caution this seller about 3 months ago, as he was using pictures from our site, but unfortunately there's nothing we can do about him mentioning brand names in his description.
This unit would be fine for the beginner, as the ECB is, but I wouldn't recommend it to anyone that is serious about Q.

Mike, the simple reason is that it is not branded... I read through his feedback, and interestingly, one of his negs is for that unit, not being described correctly
