Any thoughts on double wall vs insulated walls on the fire box. Recently I fired the ole girl up and found the inflation that I used was very toxic. Thinking about just doing double wall instead. My insulated doors wanted to warp real bad due to the difference in expansion speeds which didn't impress me either.

Re: Double wall vs insulated wall
There is little to no value in a double wall firebox without insulation because once it heats and stabilizes the metals are pretty much the same temp. Why not just buy the proper insulation and replace what you have?

Re: Double wall vs insulated wall
Aaron Franklin builds all of his fireboxes double walled, but not insulated
he says in his book, that he does it because of the cold nights in the winter, in Austin
it keeps the cold air from blowing directly on the wall of the firebox
but his end plates and doors are not double walled

Re: Double wall vs insulated wall
Air is the best insulator in the world. You would probably need the double walls to have 4-5 inches of clearance between them at a minimum, so in that sense 1" fire board may be a better option.
