NOOB needs advice

Postby Quadkeys » Fri Apr 21, 2017 4:16 pm

I have been looking at smokers for some time and think I am ready to take the plunge into a good one. Has anyone seen a T smoker? What I mean is 24x24 insulated firebox in center of a 24x24x48 cook chamber. Where the fire hits a water tray right above it and the smoke goes around the water tray at the front and back of cooking chamber with slit openings, hope I describe that right for yall. If anyone has seen or has thoughts on this I would really like to hear them. I think it is a solid design but don't know the nuances of a bbq smoker like real builders. Thanks..Robert

Like KiwiRuss said - - - just wait cause I'm sure that someone that know pits will be offering some info or advice - - - Fridays are always pretty slow but Good Luck with your decision

Is this similar to the one Johnson Smokers in Ennis makes?

The design works if built properly. There are many different types of cookers out there all claiming to be the best and in the end if they cook well they all do the job intended it just depends on what style you prefer. This type of cooker has a smaller foot print than say an offset so that is a plus if that is what you are needing.

I haven't seen this particular model Johnson in person but I did crawl all over one of his RF pits when I was pit "shopping". It was built like a tank.

Small foot print is important.. found this today, aj in fort worth did it. Something like that is what I'm thinking, would it be efficent?

It will be as efficient as a non insulated cabinet cooker can be. If it is a pretty tight cooker it should be fine.
