Materials for new pit

I am fortunate to have the opportunity to have a smoker built for free labor. I just have to come up with the materials. I have found a 250 gallon propane tank. I am looking at an old 2 horse trailer. My question is there any reason a horse trailer would not make a good choice for a trailer? I know I will need angle iron, sheet metal or pipe for fire box, pipe for stack, and expanded metal. Any ideals will be greatly appreciated. I am a couple of years from retirement and think I might enjoy competition when that time comes. Been a backyard smoker since I was in my teens. Thanks again for any ideals.

Hutch,
Is it a gooseneck or bumper pull horse trailer? i suspect it is a tandem axle trailer. If that is what you you take your time and do a layout of what all you want to put on it besides the pit itself. They you will know if it will be big enough or have enough room for what you need.

Sorry, forgot to mention the horse trailer is tandem axle.

Most old horse trailers are not structurally sound due to rust from years of washing out manure. If the frame is still solid with some extra cross members added it will work.
