Fire box help
I have been slowly working on a smoker out of a propane tank. I got a 120 gal tank and first thought i w as going to add gas to do the cooking but it was giving me trouble with not enough gas flow so now I Decided to go with a fire box. The problem j am running it is need what size of box I will need and what size metal would be needed to work. I don't want to thin so it won't warp. I tried using the calculator that tells you the square footage but I can't figure it out not smart enough to convert it over. What I got is 120 gal tank round 6 foot long. So with that beening said can someone please help me out. Will post pic of progress soon. Thanks

Re: Fire box help
Take a look at what others have done, there's hundreds of examples to look at, and just make sure yours is not too small.
If you end up with one that's larger than ideal size, remember it's the size of the fire not the size of the box.
Here's some pictures of Franklins cookers for your viewing pleasure and you can go to most any builders website to get ideas.

Re: Fire box help
Here is a link to the calculator filled out as I would build.
Link to BBQ Pit Calculator
I would increase the exhaust length to 24"
I would use 1/4" steel there is no need in going thicker.
