New guy question

Postby ronrickettsjr » Sun Oct 14, 2018 9:50 am

Great forum with lots of knowledge here. I have an experimental build going and I have a firebox question. I have 30x48 half of propane tank. I'm building a vertical smoker with it, with the firebox directly below. I am at 77% of Feldon's with my firebox I was going to use.

Any thoughts?

Thanks

Not a pit builder by any stretch of the imagination but the fire box being 23% to small seems like an issue that may be hard to overcome.

I'm not a pit builder yet :D The vertical I'm slapping together is built from scrap. With the FB directly under the chamber I could never find any good info if the FB needed to be say the same size as a reverse flow. Worst case it will eat a little more wood. The FB is out of 1/2" plate pieced together. I'm calling it " One ugly mutha". Ill try to post some pics later.

Thanks for the response

Alright fellow smokers :laughing7: Since this post I have completed the "One Ugly Mutha" upright and also whooped up a Santa Maria from scrap crap laying around. My next project will be a conventional reverse smoker to round out the collection. I'm not good at posting pics but I promise they are Whooped Up. Over the last few years I have learned alot from all the ongoing projects and input. I told my wife the info comes somtimes like cooking, slooowwww.

Thanks again to all smokers, fabricator's and DIY guys

Go to postimage.org. upload the pic.

Scroll down to "hotlink for forum" and click it, to copy the address.

Then paste that address here and click "post".

Experiment till you figure it out.

Or, you could just use the attachment option here on the forum. It’s pretty simple, I can promise you that, because I figured it out.

Take a look at this link and see if it helps you.
If you have trouble then it's probably the size of the Pic
so reduce it and try again.

Santa Maria built from the hip you might say. All scrap metal build including a redneck engineered pully and lock system 39" dia. Image

One Ugly Mutha, I'll post a better pick tomorrow. Been cooking with it for a year now. Very pleased, firebox is 1/2" plate. Does not use near the wood I expected

you have some neat ideas there, one that if, I ever build another I will definitely use is that air intake vent. I cooked 28 briskets on a pit that had a control like that. Fire management was as easy as a gas control valve on that trailer. I like your design and you got the "picture postin" figured out.

Yes sir :D I'll get some better pics today that will explain the fire control.

Thanks for looking
