Got a question for ya, My welding buddy is wanting to make the Fire Box 24" Tall, 36" wide and 30" Deep. My Tank is 30" diameter so that would put the fire box sitcking out 3" on both sides of the tank. Due to mounting on the trailer we can not go anymore then 24" Tall on the fire box. My Buddy said building the firebox a little wider and longer then would help in getting a good fire going and give me the ability to use bigger pieces of wood. What are your opinions on this? I am kind of thinking that the firebox sticking out 3" on each side of the tank may not have the best appearance. Some input would be Great.
Thanks Brad

IMO, that would just look wierd... I would build it 30" x 30" x 24"... That will be plenty big enough.

Well the firebox has been built, the rack handles are on, door stops are on, mounts for the temp guages are in. We still need to build the warming box that will go on top of the firebox and then it will be time for sandblasting, painting and mounting on the trailer. :D :D
I am wondering how far the firebox should hang over past the rear of the trailer and how to keep marker lights from melting. Also what do u think on the warming/cooking box being 30"x30"x 36" to 40" tall with like 4 racks in it?? it will be directly over the firebox.

the firebox is 30"x30"x24"

starting to cut the firebox door in

1/4" keystock across top to give a little seperation between top of firebox and cooking in warming box.
the warming box door will be on the same side as the cooker doors and will open right to left
Image
there are 2 intakes on each side of the firebox
Image
the firebox looks more proportioned in this pic

the Valves had been removed when i purchased the tank. When we cut the tank my buddy pumped exhaust from his work truck into the tank to make sure we didnt get any flare ups.

Looks like you are cutting it close to have it ready for the Sept.5 tailgate party for the opening game of the season.

Yeah i have been worried about that for a little while. Im hoping that it will be finished in the next week or so but we will see. With the economy being the way it is i understand my buddy having to put mine on the back burner to get his big customers jobs completed.

Well after seeing the firebox on the cooker, it looks really big. Does a 30"x30"x24" firebox sound like the right size for a 10' long tank with a 30" diameter?? I went by today and was looking at the grille and thinking the firebox is gonna hang down pretty close to the ground, Hopefully not to low.

Should be enough firebox for that size pit. The question will be what effect is that tuning pipe thingy going to have on the heat and it's movement within the pit...
