First one Ritchie has built that way.

With the way that it sits on my patio, it is easier to get at the firebox on the left side. Plus, I'm a lefty, so it works out well. 8)

Still shopping around. Curious as to what made you go with a Gator vs. say a Klose or Pitts-n-Spitts?

Appreciate the input

Did a bunch of research on-line. Mostly on this forum, I must admit, and also joined the Gatorpit forum. All the local custom builders have good reps and make great pits. Looked to me that Gator had the best mix of price and features.

Hope this helps.

Thanks for the input. I will be going through Houston on my way to Louisiana and both Klose and Gator Pits are right around where 290 joins the 610 loop, so that will be right in my path. Hope to drop in to both places and have a look-see myself.

Big fan of the Gators, congrats.

Did you get any of those "tuning plates"? Some do, some don't.

Really, really like the shelf set-up on that.

Yes, I got the tuning plates. With them in place the difference in temp from one end of the smoking chamber to the other was about 5 degrees. They also catch some of the drippings and vaporize them back into smoke and flavor.
