Smokemaster Refurbished

Postby Gws1977 » Sun Apr 17, 2016 1:33 pm

Hello from Beaumont, TX. I have been grilling for 20 years, but I am brand new to Smoking. My father-in-law recently gave me a Smokemaster Offset Smoker. I have done some research and learned that these are still very popular. It needed some TLC but still has very strong bones. I have really enjoyed using this and really enjoy the new challenge of smoking meats slow and low.

How did the inside of the firebox look/ restore? I just bought a smoker to rebuild, and the fire box aint in the best shape. The rust didnt break through, so I am hoping it can still be saved.

Sorry to bring back an old thread. I've got the same size Smokemaster. It's a heavy duty monster that will give you years of service. I've had mine for 15 years and it's turned out a ton of good 'gue. Other than a good friend who liked mine and bought one, I've never seen another. I've wondered over the years if we had the only ones? Any other Smokemaster's around ?

They went out of business in 2007. I think they're rare.

I’ve had mine for 2 years and absolutely love it. Got it from a neighbor. He bought it in Texas over 25 years ago.

I also refurbished a Texas Smokemaster recently. Pit has been running great for the past couple of months. Glad to see there are a few people here who have done them! Link to my imgur:

It's been a great addition to my WSM 22" and PBC. Still learning the ins and outs of stick burning, but it turns out some amazing brisket.

Thanks! It's been interesting learning to stick burn instead of using my WSM 22" or PBC. I feel like anytime I shut the door even with the damper open it smothers the fire, and I'm still learning when to put the logs on. It does turn out some incredibly tasty 'que. Thanks for the welcome! I've been lurking here for quite a while.

Run the pit with the stack wide open. And the fire box vent as well, and that pit will work like a champ.
