Thicker steel will retain temperature longer.
But that sucker's gonna be heavy.

Weight and getting the cooker to temp are the only down falls to a .500 cooking chamber. They are a beast to get up to temp and the added weight can be an issue to some. The pipe alone before caps will weigh about 800 lbs.

K.a.m. so a 1/2 pit will take more wood to get it up to temp? Will it also take longer to recover after the doors are open? Will it use more wood the keep temp ? So in your opinion would a 1/4 inch cc be better

Will it also take longer to recover after the doors are open? Not really. Once the metal is hot it will retain its heat.
Will it use more wood the keep temp ? About average on the wood use.
So in your opinion would a 1/4 inch cc be better I would rather a 1/4" chamber if I had my choice.
