I need some advice on different custom pit builders in which to research. New here. Michigan is the final
Destination, so I am pretty sure that shipping is in my price allotment as well. Don't know if it's possible to keep it under $3000?
Would like to have a wood burner that allows me to cook for 50 people. Insulated fire box for the oft cool temps up there. Any suggestions are welcome! Currently living in Fort Worth area.
Thanks!

If I were to buy I would go one place and that is Shirley Fabrication out of Tuscaloosa Alabama. Paul and Tyler's work is second to none.

I doubt you will get a cooker to feed 50 people for under 3000.00.

You would be doing yourself a favor to give Klose BBQ Pits a look as well. Top of the line.

Yeah.. I read some of your earlier posts. I know that you are a big fan of Shirley. Unfortunately, they are not a reliable source as they are so far out in their ability to deliver product in a manageable timeframe for my function. But I did check out their website via your recommendations. Too bad that they are unable to accommodate my needs ... it certainly looks like a very good cooker!

Their lead time is where it is because of the quality and popularity of the cooker not because they are slow to deliver.
Good luck with your search there are some builders out there that may have one sitting. Another good source is Pits by JJ in Houston. Jose builds an awesome cooker as well. Paul was closer to you shipping to the north.

I have a 24x48 from Lone Star Grillz. I my picture there are 9 pork shoulders on the bottom rack alone. I've done that with brisket and ribs on the top rack and all turned out great. That's more than going to feed 50. You could likely get a 24x36 and feed 50 easy, which is as well under $3000. What size smoker are you thinking you need?

I did the research, and with what I needed/ wanted I finally called Tyler Shirley and went with a trailer 24x60 elavated cabinet model.. obviously it's going to be a bit more than I originally thought I was going to spend, but at the end of the day I saw the superior workmanship and pulled the trigger. The welds on Shirley's cookers are second to none!
I have plenty of time to accumulate the extra money as they will probably finish mine in spring of 2018.
Glad I did the research, and made my decision based on happiness and not stingyness
