The 36x24 Lonestar Grillz offset smoker I ordered in January finally arrived this past weekend. It was pretty much in-line with their lead time estimate (16-18 weeks). The quality of this pit is amazing. 1/4 steel throughout with terrific welds. The door seals are top notch with essentially no leaking without any seasoning or silicon. It weighs about 1000 pounds but moves easily with the casters provided.

It arrived Friday and I did about a 6 hour seasoning with red oak. Yesterday was the first cook on it and again I used red oak. I did two three pound tri-tips and some bbq beans. I kept the temp at 235-240 with ease and the tri tips were done in less than two hours. Much faster than I anticipated and will probably try to cook them at 220-225 next time. Still, they turned out great with plenty of smoke flavor.

Anyone considering an investment in an offset, I highly recommend Lone Star Grillz. Here are some photos from the cook yesterday and delivery of the pit. Unfortunately I was so eager to eat the meat i didn't take any pics of the final product!

I also picked up a Fireboard Wi-Fi thermometer. Its a 6 channel thermometer that has Wi-FI and bluetooth. The Wi-FI connection allows me to leave the house or bluebook range and still monitor the cook. Also logs each cook for future reference. Really happy with it.

Awesome rig Johnny--just stay under the radar unless Bodhi finds out !

How are you liking the Fireboard in terms of ease of interface. I use a Maverick ET-735 which is decent with BlueTooth, but wish it was WiFi enabled.

QUE - i really like the Fireboard therm. It can hold up to 6 channels and logs each cook which you can add notes to. Its nice to have a historical reference for each cook and change things accordingly if necessary. The WIFI is awesome. Doesn't matter how far away I am, I can open the app and it flawlessly shows me real time info. As far as the interface, everything is controlled through the app via your phone. The therm itself flashes the temp for each channel but thats about it. It's easy to navigate the app so no complaints there. It was a little pricey but I am happy with it so it seems worth it.

"Utah, get me 2!!" I'm loving it re: Fireboard. I just got Flame Boss, which is a stoker, and I'll have to see how that one shakes out. Supposedly, it to will plot your cooks. I'm going to have to get me one of each--get me 2 :)

Angelo is that you? ha let me know how that Flame boss works. It looks pretty similar to the Fireboard sans the fan. Supposedly Fireboard is going to come out with a fan for their therms. They already have an auxiliary port built into their thermometers so its just a matter of time I assume.
