Need help: Lone Star Custom Pits trailer

Postby Voltronjacko » Mon Jul 10, 2017 1:34 pm

Hey guys, I'm looking at buying a trailer that was made by Lone Star Custom Pits (not to be confused with Lone Star Grillz in Willis, TX). I think they were out of Humble, TX. I know they closed up shop around 2010 and the owner (Tom Camden) passed away shortly after (about a year later).

Here is an image I found that that is identical to the pit I'm looking at:

I'm mainly looking for information on a possible VIN or model number they might have stamped on the pit. I want to make it a street legal trailer and when registering, the DMV will want a VIN if possible.

Are any of you guys familiar with this builder? After a google search, you can't find hardly anthing from URL's, images, etc.

You may want to look up under the trailer. They usually weld the id number to the bottom of the trailer. If he was certified by the state as a trailer builder. At least that is where mine is that was built by Klose. Other wise you may have to look into a lost title type deal or just weigh it and classify it as a home build possibly.

Your welcome, and good luck. I have never found dealing with trailers and trying to get them titled a very pleasant experience. When I went to title my pit they wanted to charge me sales tax on the total price of the pit. So it still isn't registered. And you never get the same answer twice from the county or the state.

I talked to my friend and he said if the cooker has a serial # it will be just behind the coupler on the frame on top as that is where his is. If not my suggestion is pull the heaviest weight you can without inspection and call it a day title it as shop built.
