The Big Boys / Trailer Pits - Moberg vs. Lone Star Grillz vs.?

Postby BigThicketBBQ » Tue Mar 27, 2018 3:14 pm

At some point this year I’m planning to buy a decent size trailer pit (something in the 500 gallon tank range). It will be used for a small food truck and/or for catering.

The two leading contenders are Moberg and Lone Star Grillz. Anyone else that I should be considering in that size range? I don’t care about paint jobs or anything like that. Just looking for a real straightforward offset stickburner with a thick (or insulated firebox), on a trailer.

I’d love to hear your thoughts.

I have yet to see a Moberg in person but they are sure rolling out some pretty ones on Twitter.

Lone Star Grillz makes a fantastic pit.

If you are at all interested in reverse flow take a look at Shirley Fabrication as well.

Right now Moberg has a 15 month backlog, which is the only real negative. I’m having a hard time finding anything else that has a big enough chamber that isn’t reverse flow. Any other contenders?

No need to look any further than this.

I’ve heard nothing but good things about Klose pits, but the idea of ordering anything based on that website gives me mild panic attacks. It hasn’t been updated in 2 years and the pricing layout is not at all user friendly.

New to the forum.... I just purchased a LSG trailer pit- 60" main with 30"x 30" vertical. Only 2 cooks in but love the pit. Quality & craftsmanship is outstanding. Very efficient. Would highly recommend.

Thanks for the info! I'm still on the hunt. Leaning toward a Lang right now. I need to get as much space as I can for my money. The LSG stuff looks amazing, though.
