Yep, got so much to do still. Finish the flanges on the doors, put new handles on the doors, put in the log lighter in the firebox, build the firebox wood basket, finish the rails and racks, build a firewood basket for the front of the trailer, rewire the trailer, put in new deck boards, and finally paint it all black. Geeze, that's a lot to do!

That is a lot to do. Warning though, after all that work you are going to want to build another smoker of some kind 8)

Already made plans to modify my backyard smoker after the money pit is finished. Going to insulate the firebox and modify the inside of the firebox as well. Going to change the rails and racks also. It a sickness, but my wife is understanding. She actually encouraged the money pit and bought the tank for my birthday last year and told me to build my dream smoker.

you are married to a "keeper"
The pit is shaping up so good. There is always the I wish I would have done.... even on the perfect pit.
I do see one problem, a major one.. the pit is not mine
the insulation you speak of in my opinion only needs to be on the top and sides as heat only goes up, just my $.02 1000 degree mat insulation is pretty good stuff for the job, about an inch thick uncompressed since the trapped air really does the work.
Have you been to the scales yet? curious to see your weigh if you do?
the work is a never ending thing, sure looks nice cant wait for more pictures

Finally got a chance to spend some time with my mistress today. Got the holes in the top welded up. I did a lot of clean up grinding all around the pit. I removed the new deck boards and stained them today. Still so much left to do.

Getting a lot done today. Got the log lighter installed in the firebox. Got the air vent handles welded on - chrome piston gear shift knobs. Got the firewood rack welded up and installed. Got all of my rails welded in and the first rack welded up and installed! Seeing the light at the end of the tunnel. Can't wait to see smoke coming out of the stack.

The CC makes a great place to store all the steel during the week.

I spent the day today beefing up the firebox door. I welded in 3/8" flat bar inside the door and welded 2"x1/4" angle all the way around to the inside and outside panels. What a busy day!
