Nothing beats free!

Postby tri3forme » Fri Dec 07, 2018 2:06 pm

My MIL had a smoker sitting in her backyard for 27 yrs, 20 of those years unused, since that’s how long it’s been since she’s been divorced. Asked if I could take that lonely smoker home with me and give it the the attention it deserves and she happily agreed. I think it’s a Lyfe Tyme since that’s what it says on the temp probe but was able to clean it up pretty good. I have one more coat of paint to put on it but it should be ready to go by Christmas! This is my new baby and I’m one helluva proud pop!

It is definitely a LyfeTyme. I have one just like it but my firebox and vertical are on different ends. I'm assuming you have the sausage rod at the top of the vertical, you'll love that to hang stuff. Feel free to PM me once you get started. It's going to take you a while to get the hang of cooking on this smoker, be patient. Go get yourself some wood; I basically burn firewood in mine.

Thank you, Rambo! I will most certainly take you up on that offer. Yes, it does have bars for hanging. So far, all I can think of hanging is sausage. Do you have a tuning or baffle plate on yours? It looks like mine sure could benefit from one. Can’t wait to fire it up though. It seems like there’s a gazillion things one can do on it.

I believe a plate would be very beneficial based on the reviews I have read on this board. I don't have one and just learned how to cook on mine after hours of experimenting. There was a good thread on here somewhere that had the picture of the baffle and a link to the Mfg if you can find it.

Dude, this thing is ridiculously heavy. It wasn’t easy getting it out of my MIL’s backyards day it’s going to be even harder getting it into my backyard. I need some tricks of the trade tips on moving this thing with least amount of effort.

So you think there’s a good bit of a learning curve with this one? What kind of temp variance do you get btw the horizontal and vertical chambers?

If you'll look there are hooks welded on it to have a tractor pick it up. The metal wheels don't roll at all on grass so you're either going to have to pick it up with a tractor or get about 3 friends to come help you get it to it's final destination
