BEG guys, plate setter or spider or other?

Postby CJATE » Fri May 28, 2010 9:59 pm

I broke my plate setter. Should I replace or get something else?

I smokeand bake w/ the setter. do I understand the spider does all that?

Smoking and pizza is what I use it the most for, however think ill bake sticky buns and such on comps.

It’s a clean break, and I was able to use it today broken, so I’ll try to fix, but no it won’t last long/travel well.

CJ,

Depending on how it is broken, you can potentially fix it with JB Weld. Lots of folks put their PS back together with JBW.

I'm on my 3rd PS :( Mine is an XL and it broke into three pieces pretty much right down the middle both times. Tried using JBW but with the width and unsupported length, it wouldn't hold together. My lesson learned is that even I'm wearing orkas or welding gloves, make sure I know what direction in heading in with the PS when I take it out.

The spider is real handy and adds a lot of versatility in setups but serves a different purpose - check it out here http://www.ceramicgrillstore.com/cerami ... &Itemid=57

Based on using it for smoking and pizzas, I would say the PS is a must.

Do you have a pizza stone?

Good luck with it.

yes, i have a stone. used it last night.

i'll try jb,,,but was thinking i'd try to drill and fix with a plate steel.

i was thinking that a spider + dutch oven lid = plate setter

DO lid may radiate too much heat.

I made a PS for my mini out of 3/4" plate. It radiated too much heat - tossed it and use now I use an 8" pizza stone.
