Myron Mixon pellet grills

Postby MildBill » Mon May 12, 2014 2:25 pm

I seen a commercial for Myron Mixon's pellet grills recently. I kinda laughed because he used to badmouth them.

Has anyone seen one or tried one? They look good and the price is good but I'm worried about the quality of them. Thoughts?

Was half the commercial bleeped out? Ol' Myron has quite a mouth on him.

As long as they'll pay him, he will put his name on just about anything. Good guy though.

You got that right, brother. Funny how waving some dollar signs in someone's face will make people say and do things they never would before.

He might have badmouthed them but might have been for a specific circumstance, like for using them as fuel for competitions. Either way, he likes to badmouth. Guy gets on my nerves personally.... seems like one of those dudes who constantly reminds you of how good he is.

His new units look nice! I'd happily take one of those V33's!

first, Welcome to the forum.... :P

I suppose different strokes for different folks, I cook on pellets purely from a convenience stand point, no wood to mess with and the temp control is excellent, a few bucks to the pellet maker and wa la, fuel is no problem. Flavor, well it could use a little help, but the convenience, and the I sleep so well on the long overnight cooks" all those things come into play for me.
The water pan, the last one of those I used was on a brinkman charcoal fired, and an ole hickory electric. They did a good job but at a cost of, giving the meat a steamed appearance and flavor of smoked boiled BBQ just was not for me. Seemed to water down the flavors and when the meat was cut water not juice ran everywhere way to much hydration.

There are other gravity feed smokers out there I haven't experienced cooking on them maybe some day?

Myron's name on a product doesn't impress me he's like a politician when it comes to $.
I have been cooking with pellets for 15 years now and will recommend the type without reservation so long as you understand the units capabilities and buy the one that matches your needs. During that 15 years I have had a selection of stick burners too including a deluxe unit so I know the difference.
Most pellet cookers make a pretty good smoker but a lousy grill (no matter what Myron or other sales type say). Some actually do both well but they cost a bit more.
They are especially good for patio cookers in that they work well without baby sitting even for long cooks they are pretty much set and forget.
