Wood pellet cookers? Do you like using them?
One of my buddies just doesnt like the whole babysitting scenario to cook briskets but loves brisket and wants to look into getting a Traeger or other wp grill but is concerned at the real bbq flavor. Would like to see comments from those who actually own and use them. I had one like 10 years ago and do remember cooking some good food on it. He could also afford the Pitmaker safe if he wants but its a big difference in price, i think I've read everyuwhere they are also pretty much a set it and forget it cooker. He also has a nice enclosed cooking area so it wouldnt be in the weather outside.

Egghead and The Egg Cult might offer an opinion. My friend is an egg cultist and big time in the set it and forget it camp. He gets decent to goid results on small to medium packers, and might check it all of twice during a cook.

Just curious but you can't cook with pellet cookers in IBCA comps right?

I've been cooking with pellets since 1998 and in the mean time have had an assortment of stick burners. I still have and use the original pellet pump.
But then I also have a FEC PG500. Needless to say I love 'em.

I have the FEC-100 and am completely happy with it.
Also have the Meat probe to shut it down to a hold temp after your meat temp is reached.
I have it installed in a 10x10 portable kitchen and vented through the roof.
It will be going into my vending trailer before too long. Just gotta recover from surgery this summer, before that happens.
If you want more smoke, do a two stage cook and/or use an Amazin Tube Smoker.

I recently bought a Rec Tec pellet grill and I love it. It's super heavy duty gauge steel and the racks and drip pan are all STAINLESS STEEL. Easy cleaning and some of the best darn brisket I've ever made.

I have a traeger texas offset since 1999 and a FEC100 since 2003, wont be going back to the stick burner unless pellets become "no more".
I have cooked numerous "crowd" events one of my favorites was for my boss who did not want anyone knowing the cooking process... so the briskets were cooked and foil wrapped then transferred 35 miles away to a stick burner for keeping warm. That one got rave reviews and several $ tips.....
at the bbq comps which cooks are the most rested? the ones with the pellet burners....
my traeger is not used much anymore because it is a pellet hog compared to the FEC100 but it still is a good option for cooking, been thinking I would sell or trade it to clear some patio space...
