I bit the bullet on a Yoder YS640 today!!

Postby mlee » Thu May 19, 2016 7:33 pm

Well after a ton of reading and weighing options I decided on Yoder and found exactly what I wanted in stock and local.
Only problem is it was pouring rain and there was just one guy to help me get it in the truck so I just set them up to deliver, hopefully tomorrow.

Now to decide what to cook first. :stir:

Just keep in mind that you won't get the smoke that is implied. Get yourself a smoke generator. I use this: http://www.amazon.com/A-MAZE-N-AMNPS5X8-Pellet-Smoker/dp/B007ROPJ1M/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1463253589&sr=8-1&keywords=amaz-n-smoker

Congrats on the Yoder. They are built like a tank.

Thanks for the link. I planned on getting one of those from some reading I've done here.

Hey neighbor, Congrats on the new score - - - Okie also turned me onto the AMAZN accessory and it does work well. As for your first cook, I would suggest some dead pig bones but an injected yard clucker ain't a bad choice either and it's a lot quicker. Good Luck and keep us in the Loop, OK :?:

congrats on the smoker...
the female folks seem to prefer the "lighter smoke taste" that comes naturally from a pellet cooker, but seems the male side of the species wants a richer smoke enhancement, so I concur the amazing smoke tubes to seem to help 8)

Well I started out with a small Pork Butt and chicken on the side. And I must say the pork was awesome. Still need some practice on chicken but it was still good as well.

No I did not and usually do but it was sort of a last minute toss in. I think it needed a little more time on the grill. Was a bit pink inside. I monitored the butt temp and saved the bird for last. It got up to 155 deg and I should have gone longer.

With the help of some members, I did one not too long ago on my Pit Boss Pellet that turned out nice. Brined it, Rubbed it and pulled it off at 160.8 - - - here's the link in case you're interested

Congrats on the Yoder.
That pork butt looks nice. I was over in your neck of the woods Friday evening at the ScrapYard watching softball.

I'm new to the forum and have been researching a new smoker. The Yoder is definitely on my short list. Can you give an update now that you've had it awhile?

Thanks!
