Well, as many have mentioned here before, Pellet Cookers are a learning experience and hopefully I learned an easy lesson yesterday.
In the past several cooks I have always cleaned out the pellet hopper and fire pot, except this last time. Even tho I had everything else cleaned, I didn't realize the importance of the part I didn't do. LESSON came when I first cranked it and put two racks of pork ribs on to "Smoke" for an hour or so. Temperature read 185 and I went in the house to get some other things ready. After about 30 minutes I went back out to check and the temp was at 295 and climbing When it rose to 350 my brain finally started working and I realized that the fire pot was aflame and getting hotter. Then basically I just took the ribs off, removed the grates and drip tray and extinguished the flame - - - took an adequate spoon and cleaned out the fire pot as best possible then fired her up and finished the 4.5 hour cook with no problems.
Well, after a good night's sleep, I put the super clean on her so she's ready to do her thang next time.

350 is about what I cook my reebs at, but I see where the surprise may be since you weren't intending on this high. Good thing you were able to save them

Yep, I use a small shop vac for that job.
Note to self: make sure the fire is ALL the way out.

Same here plus my DeWalt hand vac but the Shop Vac does a much better job.
