The underside of the hood on my RecTec and top of the barrel is getting a heavy coating of buildup. It's not like the build up of creasote on my COS which turns into flakes and I just brush it off.
My question is...do any of you pellet owners clean this buildup off from time to time and if so how ?
I thought about taking a oven cleaner to it but I can't stand the smell of that junk and am afraid of that odor getting transferred to the food.
Thinking about heating it up with a Mapp torch and using a plastic Bondo spreader and scraping it off.
What do y'all use or do you not worry about the buildup ??
Hood used to be orange
Thanks
Bill

Haven't had mine long enough to need that but I will soon so I'll be watching the input from the Pros

If mine starts falling off I'll use the scraper to help it but that's it.

Re: Cleaning a pellet smoker ?
Well that seals it. Thanks all.
Going to leave as is. When and if it ever starts to flake I'll deal with it then.
Right now the build up is like a thick coat of paint. Dry and not sticky and it gives my shop a nice mellow wood smoke aroma.
Thanks
Bill

I still think they should make a Men's After Shave that smells like BBQ Smoke

I am with Papa Tom, let it ride until it causes a problem by falling on the food, then scrape it down, and leave it until it builds up and creates a problem...
OUP.. there is an aftershave smoke flavored....
