New Pit Boss 820 Pro owner
I recently purchased my first Pit Boss, the 820 Pro. Been doing a lot of reading and research on the do’s and don’ts, how to’s, etc. I’m have a question about the “P” setting and it’s use. Does it work differently depending on the model? My manual says to use it in conjunction with the Smoke setting, but I’ve been reading where some users are saying they set the temp to, let’s say 225, and the P setting to P4. But if I use the preset temps on my 820, I don’t see the P setting on my display. BTW, great forum!

Welcome to the forum;
PaPa tom knows the p setting very well, if he says it only works on smoke, I would believe it to be that way

^^ What Spacetrucker said......^^
Yes there is a lot of confusion about this simple setting, think of it as the "pilot light" timing should be set so the fire does not go out.
It only directly controls the pellet feed in the "Smoke" setting all other settings are controlled by the temperature set. The "P" setting will only be used as the maximum time between auger cycles (remember it is the "pilot light") when in temperature controlled mode.
BTW enjoy your 820 I've had mine for several years and it is my go to cooker (I also have a Traeger and a Cookshack Fast Eddy)

Thanks, Papa Tom. So even though I can’t see (or, therefor, adjust), the P setting while in temp control mode, it’s working in the background, is that right?
